Emaly Vatne

Assistant Sports Scientist

Emaly Vatne is an Assistant Sports Scientist with both the OSU Department of Athletics and the Human Performance Collaborative.  She is also a PhD student in Kinesiology at Ohio State and is interested in sport science and human performance. Emaly was a varsity student-athlete and two-time captain for the Ohio State women's soccer team and now assists with sport science initiatives of Ohio State Department of Athletics. For Ohio State, she has developed post-season analyses, athlete monitoring tests, and the development of interactive data visualization applications for coaches and practitioners. Previously, Emaly worked as a Women in Sports Tech fellow and as an X-Force fellow, both focused on data science and data engineering. Emaly received the 2022 Big Ten Sportsmanship award, 2022 Academic All-District, Woody and Anne Hayes Scholarship, and the Robert N. and Sharon S. Gandee Endowed Scholarship. Emaly completed her BS in Exercise Science with a minor in Human Nutrition, and completed her MS in Kinesiology with a thesis in athlete monitoring of collegiate women's ice hockey athletes.

Research Focus

Identifying technological and analytical approaches to investigate human performance and to assist coaches, practitioners, and athletes. Evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of recovery strategies for elite athletes. Characterize athlete monitoring approaches that are sensitive to unique physiology of female athletes.
