Matthew Vatne

Applications Developer

Matt Vatne is a senior at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) double majoring in Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering and is a captain for the CWRU varsity men's soccer team. He is a four-year letter winner, 2022 UAA Offensive Player of the Year, 2022 All-American, and 2022 Academic All-American. He is also a Van Horn Society inductee at CWRU, which honors student-athletes who have succeeded athletically and also maintained above a 3.8 GPA. Matt Vatne started working for the HPC in the summer of 2023 and has been a part of athletic-related software development, data engineering, and data analysis projects. Previously, Matt worked as a Software Engineering intern in 2022 and a Mechanical Engineering intern in 2021 for Bosch. These internships included running and optimizing simulation test cases, as well as performing physical tests to ensure safety level met or exceeded standards.

Research/Career Focus

Leveraging statistical analyses, data visualization, and data science to generate meaningful insights from sport datasets to support player evaluation, player and team development, team construction, in-game strategies, and tactical decisions.
