US Air Force Cooperative Research and Development Agreement - Augmenting Human Performance

Project Summary

The primary objective is to explore how novel interventions can be utilized to improve overall human performance and health, for the benefit of both the public and private sectors, through experimentation, analysis, simulation and technology development. The Air Force Activity and Collaborator will investigate (1) technologies that advance assessment of human physical and/or cognitive state, (2) implementation and evaluation of adaptations that can help mitigate performance declines, and (3) integration of sensors that collect physiological signals and/or detect specific biomarkers. The Air Force Activity and Collaborator also will seek operational challenges that identify needs, provide focus for method development, and build a framework for demonstration of capabilities. In the areas of next-generation sensing and assessment of physical and cognitive state, augmentation of training, and augmentation of operational performance, this Agreement will result in valuable insight into the biomarkers and physiological measures that indicate when humans are vulnerable to poor performance; analysis techniques which can translate physiological measures and biomarker detections into assessments of individuals’ states; and methods to augment human performance, improve health and readiness.
